Vinesh Phogat's Counsel Lists Reasons Behind Her 100g Weight Excess Before Court

Vinesh Phogat lost out on her certain silver and potential gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 

when she was disqualified prior to her final bout in the Women's Freestyle 50 kg wrestling event because she turned out to be overweight—100 grams above the stipulated 50 kg limit. 

Phogat is now awaiting a verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport over her appeal for a joint silver medal.

Phogat has cited that it was a tight schedule and the distance between the Athletes' Village and competition arena

A news report in the Indian Express now quotes Vinesh Phogat's legal team as saying that the distance between the Athletes Village and the Champ de Mars Arena

He also mentioned that the bouts were too close in time, leaving him scant time to reduce his weight, which was 52.7 kg, 2.7 kgs over category weight, following the first day of competition.

The counsel for Phogat also indicated that the excess by 100g in weight was marginal and corresponded to 0.1 to 0.2 percent of the total weight of the athlete

this small increase was due to natural factors such as water retention because of summer heat.
