On September 17, the Pittsburgh Steelers made significant adjustments to their practice squad.
ESPN's Brooke Pryor stated that one of the Steelers' actions was to add wide receiver Jaray Jenkins to their practice squad.
Jenkins participated in the Steelers' 2024 training camp and preseason.
"Steelers are signing WR Jaray Jenkins back to the practice squad, per source," Pryor stated in an email.
Jenkins was a freshman at LSU when they won the national championship in 2019. He has yet to participate in an NFL regular-season game, but he performed admirably for the Steelers throughout the preseason.
Jenkins will replace wide receiver Shaquan Davis on Pittsburgh's practice squad. The Steelers waived Davis and cornerback Zyon Gilbert from their practice squad on September 17.
In addition to Jenkins, the Steelers have signed defensive backs James Pierre and D'Shawn Jamison to their practice squad for Week 3.
Jenkins has only 5 catches for 67 yards as a freshman at LSU during the team's 15-0 season in 2019. Jenkins did, however, appear in seven games that season and went on to contribute regularly for the next three years.
He had his finest statistical season at LSU during his junior year in 2021, with 34 catches for 502 yards.
Jenkins averaged 15.4 yards per grab throughout his college career and scored 14 touchdowns. He was undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft. Jenkins eventually signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He spent training camp and the preseason with Jacksonville before being placed on injured reserve and then dismissed prior to the regular season.
