Rams decide not to put WR Cooper Kupp on injured reserve for now
The Los Angeles Rams have decided not to place receiver Cooper Kupp on injured reserve in the hopes that he will be able to heal from his ankle injury sooner.
The Rams placed offensive lineman Jonah Jackson and safety John Johnson on injured reserve Wednesday after both were hurt in the team's blowout defeat to Arizona.
The Super Bowl 56 MVP injured his ankle in the second quarter against the Cardinals, but he will not require surgery. He is now in a cast to limit movement, but he could return before the four-game absence mandated by injured reserve
The Rams' bye week falls during that period.Kupp being on injured reserve is "still a possibility," according to head coach Sean McVay.
But there's a chance just based on where our bye is ... that he could get back before those four games," said the athletic director.
"We don't necessarily need that (roster) spot, so because of the amount of injuries that we have, if there is a chance
Nobody (Jackson or Johnson) would have ever been able to be back before that four games."
Indeed, two games into the season, the Rams' injured reserve is becoming uncomfortably packed.
The Rams have already designated eight players to return off IR during the regular season,
such as receiver Puka Nacua, cornerback Darious Williams, offensive lineman Steve Avila and Joe Noteboom, as well as Jackson and Johnson.
