Italy may only be a few weeks into its new season
but the first high-profile management dismissal has already occurred.
Sampdoria has released Andrea Pirlo after losing twice and drawing once in their first three matches, putting them 19th in Serie B.
Pirlo, a member of the Italian team that won the 2006 World Cup, was named Sampdoria manager in July 2023 after the club was relegated from Serie A.
The Italian began his managerial career with Juventus in 2020
And won the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup before being fired after just one season in Turin.
He joined Sampdoria after less than a season with Fatih Karagumruk, leaving the club in ninth place following his sacking.
Pirlo spent his playing career with Brescia, Reggina, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, and New York City FC until retiring in 2017.
With AC Milan and Juventus, he won six Serie A titles and two Champions League crowns.
