Panthers QB Bryce Young was benched on Monday for Andy Dalton.
This change occurred less than 24 hours after coach Dave Canales confirmed Young as the starter for Sunday's game.
Young, 23, is the first No. 1 draft pick since 1967 to be benched for noninjury reasons in his second season.
Canales decided to bench Young after reviewing film of the 26-3 loss to the Chargers.
– Young had a career-low 6.4 QBR in that game.
Canales did not clarify if owner David Tepper influenced the decision.
– General manager Dan Morgan and EVP Brandt Tilis were involved in the discussion.
The decision marks a significant shift for Young in his second NFL season.
