The Algerian Olympic Committee filed an official protest with the IOC on the treatment of boxer Imane Khelif.
Khelif has faced a barrage of insults and criticism since defeating Angela Carini in the final 16 of the women's welterweight division at the Paris Games.
Carini halted the fight after 46 seconds.Some later protested that Khelif had failed eligibility tests conducted by Russia's International Boxing Association (IBA).
The boxing competitions at this year's Games are being administered by the IOC, and Khelif has been permitted to compete.
However, the backlash has continued, with Khelif's next opponent, Anna Luca Hamori, writing a series of disparaging remarks about the Algerian.
In apparent response to such posts, the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee filed an official protest with the IOC.
"The Algerian Olympic and Sports Committees conclude to the knowledge of national and international public opinion,
that follows the official complaint submitted today by our Olympic body to the International Olympic Committee," according to a statement issued by them.
