Jets' Strange Coaching Decision Leaves Many Questions
By Saloni
One choice that perplexed fans and journalists was the use of rookie running back Braelon Allen. He played only nine offensive snaps, all of which came during garbage time at the end of the San Francisco 49ers game.
Dan Leberfeld of Jets Confidential inquired on social media, "Why employ Breece Hall on that two-point conversion run instead of Braelon Allen? "Wasn't Allen drafted for those types of plays?"
Matt O'Leary, the Jets' content creator, wondered, "What happened to Braelon Allen?" 3rd and 4th and 1 feel like good options for him."
Allen finished the game with one carry for eight yards. His only carry of the game came with two minutes left in the match.
NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein praised Allen as having "rare size on an imposing frame."
"He's built to be a banger but needs to embrace a consistently physical style, as he lacks the footwork and hips to elude defenders with finesse," Zierlein says.
Hall is the Jets' catalyst, but Allen's immediate job on the team would appear to be as a short-yardage and goal-line back. A compliment to Hall's blistering speed.
That and any other role were unavailable for the No. 134 overall choice in April's draft Week 1.
