On September 24, NFL Insider Jay Glazer of NFL on Fox disclosed that a pair of veteran quarterbacks approached the New York Jets and offered their services.
"There are some other options that have reached out to the Jets, veteran options like Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz to offer up their services,
but right now they're still trying to stick with Zach Wilson," Glazer said on NFL on Fox's pregame show.
Robert Saleh was asked to answer the reports after the Jets fell 15-10 to the New England Patriots in Week 3.
"As for the other stuff, I'm not going to address that," Saleh told the journalists.According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio,
the Jets "turned them down" when veteran free agents Carson Wentz and Ryan approached the organization.
On September 24, Saleh stated that the former No. 2 choice gave the club "the best chance to win."
He completely ruled out Tim Boyle getting first team reps as an emergency quarterback option during practice,
instead reinforcing his faith in Wilson as the team's quarterback.Wilson did not commit a turnover in the New England game, which is encouraging, but the rest of his numbers were dismal.
He barely completed 50% of his attempts, finishing with 157 yards throwing, and averaged only 4.4 yards per attempt.
