Haason Reddick, a New York Jets All-Pro pass rusher, faces millions in fines owing to contract discussions for an extension that would make him one of the NFL's highest-paid edge rushers.
Reddick was dealt to the Jets from the Philadelphia Eagles in March for a 2026 third-round pick, which could become a second-round pick if he plays 67.5% of snaps and has 10 sacks.
Philadelphia may receive the third-rounder instead of Reddick, who is projected to miss the Jets' Week 1 opener against the San Francisco 49ers and all offseason workouts.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Reddick's absence from tonight's game would result in a nearly $800,000 charge, pushing his season penalty to over $5 million.
"Jets hold-out edge rusher Haason Reddick will forfeit a game check of nearly $800,000 for missing tonight’s regular-season opener vs.
the 49ers, and an additional nearly $800,000 for each game he subsequently misses," Schefter said.
"This is on top of more than $5 million in NFL-mandated fines that he already has accumulated."
Jets general manager Joe Douglas has been positive about Reddick,
who has had double-digit sacks in each of the last four seasons, coming to practice, but Reddick has the final say.
