J.K. Dobbins makes statement with electrifying Chargers debut

A year after tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 1, new Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins ran for 135 yards and scored a 12-yard touchdown in a 22-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Heading into Sunday's game against Carolina, Dobbins ranks third in the league in rushing yards with 13.5 yards per carry in Week 1. Dobbins, 25, has overcome major injuries before. He missed 2021 due to a preseason ACL tear on the Ravens.

Go ahead. Call him “Comeback King.” Since his 2020 debut, the man has played only 10 games but displayed incredible tenacity.

Dobbins told USA TODAY Sports at training camp, “Jesus has made a way for me to be here, through all the trials and tribulations.” A lot of people report injuries. My wounds were unfortunate.

Can't control anything? I can only fight back as I have. By fighting back, new possibilities arise. This new start should be amazing. Storms are over.”

Dobbins certainly felt at home after the Ravens drafted him second-round from Ohio State. His first Baltimore coordinator was Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

“I love him so much,” Dobbins said. Playing for his brother John gave me family ties. He's my Big Ten rival. We've been close. Now playing for him—unique. His humor is great.”

“Steeler Nation is incredible,” said Pittsburgh linebacker T.J. Watt after the 18-10 triumph. A silent count at home field demoralizes an offense. Incredible. Many plays go to them.”

“That fumble I was able to land on was because they had a silent count,” Watt added. When it happens and you have multiple shifts and moves, I'm not surprised.
