The annual USA Today Top 25 was released Monday and the Bulldogs received 46 of 55 possible first-place votes ahead of Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and Alabama
The Buckeyes were the clear top team in the poll and received seven first-place votes. The other two first-place votes went to the Longhorns and Michigan, the defending national champions.
Georgia went undefeated in the regular season in 2023 before losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.
That loss knocked the Bulldogs out of the College Football Playoff and destroyed Florida State in the Orange Bowl to end the season.
The Bulldogs bring back QB Carson Beck after an impressive first season. He’s a preseason Heisman favorite and the defense will likely be phenomenal again.
However, Georgia has a very complicated schedule. The Bulldogs have road games against teams in the top 10 of the coaches poll. UGA will visit Alabama on Sept. Oct. 28, Texas. 19 and No. 6 Ole Miss at Nov. 6 . 9. Georgia also opens the season against the No. 1 seed. 14 Clemson.
Rounding out the top 10 after Ole Miss are Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State and Florida State. Overall, six of the top 12 teams in coaching polls are from the SEC, and nine are overall. Missouri leads LSU at 11th, Tennessee at 15th, Oklahoma at 16th and Texas A&M at 20th.
The Big Ten, as expanded by the SEC, has four teams in the top 10, but you have to go No. 23 USC all for the next team from the conference.
