Broncos Replace Injured Rookie Draft Pick With Super Bowl Champion

According to Aric DiLalla of Broncos.com, the Denver Broncos placed rookie running back Audric Estime on injured reserve on September 11.

Thus, the fifth-round draft pick for 2024 will be out of the lineup for at least the next four games.

Estime's earliest chance to play again comes in the Broncos' Week 6 game against the Chargers in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, fullback Michael Burton of the Kansas City Chiefs, the 2022 Super Bowl champion, filled Estime's roster position with the Broncos.

Before the Broncos' season-opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks, he received a call from the team. He did not have a carry and caught his lone target for three yards.

The Broncos are trying to pull off a late comeback against the Jets, and former Rutgers standout Michael Burton finds himself in the end zone on the two-point conversion:

He played for the New Orleans Saints in 2020 and has a prior relationship with Sean Payton, the head coach of the Broncos. The former Detroit Lions fifth-round selection's return to Denver is part of a trend (2015).

After spending time with the Chicago Bears and the Washington Commanders organizations, Burton has now played for six different teams for two seasons.

Estime, who ran the ball 210 times for Notre Dame in 2023 and 366 times overall in his final two seasons, is suffering from only his most recent setback.
