On Tuesday, left tackle Trent Williams signed a three-year, $82.66 million contract with $48 million guaranteed for the San Francisco 49ers.
Because he desired a new contract, 36-year-old Williams was absent all offseason. His prior deal had three years left but no guaranteed pay.
The 49ers will practice their star left tackle before their Week 1 game against the New York Jets when a new contract is finalized.
49ers owner Jed York is spending another big check on Williams, who will receive a $25.69 million signing bonus that will prorate over at least three years and include void years.
Williams was fined $5.34 million for missing training camp and the preseason, which was a major topic this offseason.
Williams's total salary over three years rose from $77.31 million to $82.66 million, a $5.35 million difference that appears to be the 49ers paying back the fines.
Williams is earning $27.65 million in his first year of his contract, the most of any lineman.
With a $25.69 million signing bonus, the left tackle's first-year compensation is $1.96 million, which could be his 2024 salary + bonuses.
