As the NFL trade deadline draws near, the Buffalo Bills have been strategically maneuvering financially.
One example is the restructure of left tackle Dion Dawkins' deal, which created almost $4 million in cap space. Because of this,
they have more wiggle room under their salary cap and can potentially make more trades to strengthen their roster before the deadline.
Those in the know have speculated that the possible extension for defensive tackle DaQuan Jones is part of their plan to free up salary cap room for possible roster moves down the road.
Despite the $4 million that was created, SB Nation's Buffalo Rumblings' Matt Warren thinks that more cap room will be needed to handle current and possible future roster adjustments as the season goes on.
"While the $4 million in cap space they've created allows room for certain adjustments, it might not be sufficient to cover subsequent player additions and injury replacements during the season," said Warren.
"They're anticipating the need for cap space in the coming months as injuries are likely, and players will need to be replaced."
The Bills may wish to hold on to DaQuan Jones, who was having a great season before suffering a pectoral injury that will probably keep him out for the rest of it.
Warren calculated that if the team were to extend his contract before the end of the current season, it would allow them to use more cap space.
