Adrian Wojnarowski's retirement shocked many in the sports media industry, as the longtime NBA insider called it quits after years of breaking practically every significant story in the league.
Following the announcement on Wednesday, many at ESPN reflected on their time with Wojnarowski,
wishing a cherished colleague farewell after a distinguished career. Adam Schefter went a step farther,
paying passionate respect to Wojnarowski and highlighting the difficulties that come with the job.
He wanted his life back. He did not want to work on vacations. "He didn't want to miss any more family gatherings," Schefter added on Wednesday.
"He didn't want to...take a shower with your phone up against the shower door so you can read incoming text messages
or take your phone to the urinal and hold it in one hand while you do your thing with the other. That's the life we lead."
During the most recent episode of his podcast, sports star and former ESPN writer Bill Simmons was taken aback by Schefter's and other network employees' emotional reactions.
You can't react after Adrian Wojnarowski retires either, like Adam Schefter did," Simmons joked.
