The Chicago Bears may need another wide receiver in the short term as Rome Odunze recovers from an MCL sprain,
however they must also consider the position's future in light of Keenan Allen.
Allen is in the final season of his contract and is searching for a new multiyear agreement. However,
he has a worrying injury history from the last two seasons and battled a heel ailment in the preseason. The wideout also missed the last four games of 2023 due to a heel issue.
On Tuesday, September 10, the NFL Scouting Department at Bleacher Report recommended that if the Bears do not bring Allen back in 2025,
they should look to replace him with Tyler Boyd, a former Cincinnati Bengals receiver and current Tennessee Titans pass catcher.
The organization may be hesitant to re-sign Keenan Allen this offseason. Allen turns 33 in April and is likely hoping for one more huge paycheck.
In addition, the club used a first-round pick on Rome Odunze, who would ideally be the offense's WR2 next year," B/R said.
So, adding a receiver like Boyd to operate out of the slot and be the team's No. 3 WR could be enticing."
Boyd signed a one-year, $2.4 million contract with the Titans this summer after finishing his four-year, $43 million deal with Cincinnati in 2023.
According to Spotrac, the Bears now have approximately $52 million in anticipated salary cap space for 2025, while Boyd's market value is less than $8 million per year for a new two-year contract.
