The 2023-24 season has been forgettable for the Memphis Grizzlies.
This team has gone through everything from key player absences to a 13-23 record and now, finally, with the return of their franchise cornerstone Ja Morant from his 25-game suspension to start the season, which gave people some hope, he will miss the rest of the season due to right shoulder surgery.
With this turn of events, many are expecting the Grizzlies to forego the final months of the season and focus on 2024-25 prep.
As a matter of fact, such a journey would likely propel the front office to sell off some of their non-long-term talents for retooling in the future.
Assuming Memphis does take that path, Michael Saenz of Sir Charles in Charge believes Marcus Smart should be shipping out.
Saenz argues that the Grizzlies—who have gone 7-20 without Morant this year—should move on from Smart's win-now talents between his up-and-down debut season in the 38103 and the fact that he very well may be the biggest trade asset for the team.
This isn't the first time the Grizzlies have thought about moving Smart this season. In fact, BSB even said hours after the Morant news came that the team should strongly consider tanking the rest of the year.
prisingly, trading Smart could work out for both parties, with the veteran in his prime and capable of helping just about any title-hopeful team in with his elite defense.
