During their season-opening triumph on Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers punter Cameron Johnston tore his ACL and will miss the season.
Johnston was injured after landing awkwardly after a punt, and kicker Chris Boswell punted on a hectic Sunday afternoon.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers signed punter Corliss Waitman to replace Johnston on Monday.
Pelissero stated on X, formerly Twitter, that the #Steelers will sign punter Corliss Waitman, citing his agent Alexa Stabler, after Cameron Johnston suffered a season-ending knee injury Sunday.
Waitman, a 2020 undrafted free agent, is in his third tenure with Pittsburgh.
Denver Broncos punter Waitman last punted in 2022. That season, Waitman punted 96 times and dropped 30 inside the 20 for an average of 41.4 yards per punt.
Pelissero said the Steelers signed Jaguars practice squad safety Terrell Edmunds on Monday to strengthen their defense.
“Reunion: The #Steelers are signing safety Terrell Edmunds off the #Jaguars practice squad, per sources,” Pelissero stated.
From 2018-22, Edmunds played his first five seasons in Pittsburgh, familiar to Steelers fans. Edmunds excelled for Mike Tomlin's defense.
