$74M 6-Time Star Did Consider Sixers in Free Agency

By Vasantha

After signing with the Sacramento Kings in the offseason, DeMar DeRozan told the 76ers he pondered joining them in free agency.

DeRozan revealed on Paul George's podcast who he contemplated during the 2024 NBA offseason before joining the Kings.

Philadelphia was a possibility. Lakers was always possible. Options included clippers. The Heat," DeRozan stated on the podcast, compiled by Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.

“Those teams were real personal, legitimate options I was considering.”

By signing George, the Sixers secured an All-Star free agent. They were eliminated from the running for DeRozan after learning his Sacramento contract amount.

After three lackluster seasons with the Bulls, DeRozan returned to California. He begins a three-year, $73.8 million Kings contract in the first year. In 15 NBA seasons, DeRozan has been an All-Star six times.

It was expected that DeRozan would be interested in the Sixers. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype said that they wanted DeRozan before the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline.

The Sixers wanted to win and hit free agency. The Sixers may sign DeRozan and have financial flexibility in the 2024 NBA offseason because his contract expired.
